Chicago Arts Group Holds
NATIVE MASCOT SPEAKOUT
at Harvest Festival

The 14th annual "T-shirt Art Harvest Festival" will announce the winner of
their international, online, art contest and exhibit, ART-ACT (Anti Racist
T-shirt Art Contest Tour). Chicago's Native American community will celebrate
Native American Day with Native art and culture on Friday, Sept. 27, opening
night, 5-10pm. An open mike will invite everyone to speak-out against the
use of Native Americans as "mascots" from 6-8:00 pm Friday. This fun is free
at the American Indian Center, 1630 W. Wilson.

The "Festival" features art on t-shirts from the T-shirt Art hay days of the
90's when the "Art of the T-shirt" exhibits showcased artists from around
Chicago all summer long in an exhibit series in public libraries. On Friday
night (9/27) find art, food, native culture and a fun speakout to vent your
mind at. All with something to say against "mascot abuse" are invited and
electronic documents - topical essays or articles - will be accepted for
publishing on the ART-ACT website, www.art-teez.org.

ART-ACT is a global online biennial contest and on-going theme exhibit of
the Uptown Multi-Cultural Art Center's website. ART-ACT attracts artists'
work internationally and locally. ART-ACT images will be displayed
inter-spacing the many works of art on T-shirts.

On Saturday the exhibit will be open from 12:00 noon to 8:00.

On Sunday CELLULOID INDIANS produced by the Native American Film Festival
and sponsored by American Indian Center will present two three hour sessions
of outstanding Native produced films featuring "Doe Boy" and many more.
The fun begins at 12:00 and runs until 6:00 pm. The American Indian Center
is located at 1630 W. Wilson Avenue. All are welcome.
