This weekly newsletter reports to you what UM-CAC is doing each week to promote
the work of artists who have joined the effort to build a "Grass Roots Gallery
of Community Chests for Chicago's Artists" - GRGCCCA - haha! Call it what you
want but have fun doing it.

QUICK NOTES
Boom, the slow sizzle bomb blows its long lazy tail through the sands of time
and we awake wondering why? The Hothouse invited us to try selling T-shirts
at their most recent gig and we sold one t-shirt. Ha-ha! That particular crowd
that night was skeptical and older and we were too new. That spot could be
developed with a steady effort into a great spot for us but we will need to
work with the management there, include our dates there on our flyers and
establish a regular presence. We are doing "missionary sales." Missionary
Sales - the science of market calls sales that require you to retrain peoples
thought patterns - rather than mimic their preconceived notions of what
is - that they call Missionary Sales. It takes more effort to put a new
thought in a persons head than to call up a thought that is already there.
It costs more to change a persons mind. That is why most business men don't
do it. But we are artists and if we do not undertake to put new thoughts
out there then we have nothing to say! An artists life most often is a
person on a mission with all the burdens of proving her/his work - Missionary
Sales. Know where we're at - know how to react. Write you when I get back
from the Allied Media Conference with notes from that affair.

Maybe soon I will have a report form our west coast "T-shirt Art Flyer
Exhibit" coordinator, artist - Kamilenana Cheatem.

Do we have a volunteer who would like to develop a PDF version of our
flyers that anyone could download from our website?

BACKGROUND

We are building our organization slowly to be able to sell art
on t-shirts to help fund an inner-city arts agency that hosts
art classes for youth and other community residents. We have
dedicated ourselves to this task without pay for 15 years because
we know it is needed and that government and civic leaders have
ignored our needs. We ask artists to respect this mission.

ARTISTS - Sell Your Art

You receive $2.00 per t-shirt sold retail. We will be promoting
the art we have licensed with increasing intensity in the coming
months and years. Who is "we". We is any of you(pl.) who help.

Our license agreement is "artist friendly" in that is pays an above
industry standard and is not an exclusive contract. The artist is free
to market their designs anywhere else including on their own website.
We want to link your pages on our site to your site. How can you
participate? Come to our Screen Print Workshop for Artists on Sundays
from 3-6pm and learn how to print your art. Already know how to screen
print? Come and show us your work. Your pens can change our world!

Visit our Screen Print Workshop for Artists to find out more.
