1) THANK YOU TO SUBMITTING ARTISTS
Thanks again for building a response to hatred. More and more people will
recognize that this is a valid forum. We are building this so you and your
work
can receive attention from an international audience.
Because we are a group of community artists struggling for a voice we value
your
expressions. We promise to post your expressions as long as you want us to.
We will continue to post your statements and links to your other art on the
Internet as you inform us. We are here to serve artists.
Your many pens - are stronger than the swords! Thank You!

3) NEW ART
Amie S. Davis has exhibited in the "Art of the T-shirt" for many
years. She
has painted banner sized cartoons to hang in the libraries to advertise our
exhibits. She had taped our Cable TV show for us for as long as we have had
our show (5 years). We are glad to have her participation.
Monica Brown found us in the very early nineties and has been our most
steady Screen Print Workshop for Artists participant. She is very serious
about
showing and supporting her art and she WILL be seen for the quality and
content of her work.

3. WEB SITE DEVELOPMENTS
A. Big Changes from Quiet Times.
Why so long without an ART-ACT Notes? Because this is a volunteer effort
and a project within other projects. This grass-roots arts agency staffed by
volunteers builds toward all its goals with patience. We have operated a
Screen Print Workshop for Artists for nearly ten years. Just now, we are
beginning to put our plan into effect to sell art on t-shirts. The reason is
that we must be ready to account for every t-shirt design printed and each
t-shirt sold. We must do it all - the art and the business to survive.
Over the last several months I have been working on setting up our Peachtree
Accounting software to keep track of our present inventory of t-shirt art.
Another needed project - a Financial Policies and Procedures Manual - I am
also working on is to provide volunteers training in our bookkeeping
practices
complete with screen capture illustrations from our Peachtree Accounting
software.
Once we have our manual completed my attention will shift to preparing
materials that will accompany our local effort at sales. The
"hang-tags" -
an informative fold of card stock that is attached to each t-shirt
describing
the artists, the image and our printing methods - are required to establish
our promotions. A flier that emphasizes our web site is the second mandatory
piece. Then we will setup mini-exhibits and table sales opportunities around
Chicagoland that do not require us to pay fees.
Already it is happening. An artist who we lost touch with in 1992 has
contacted us after seeing his art on our site and will soon set us up with
an exhibit in a very active Art Materials store where he works as an
artist/teacher-in-residence. We will do a small number of these (under ten)
this year and more next year.
Our plan is to start slow and build an inventory of printed t-shirts and
printed materials on the artists. We have 300 screens that need labeling and
entering into a database. We have 300 works of art on t-shirts donated to us
over the last thirteen years that need labeling and databasing, as well. Our
web site will need a reworking. A busy year is ahead of us.
ART-ACT II will conclude this year in August. ART-ACT III will re-new our
efforts at building the mountain of art in support of diversity. Slow and
steady - even an old man with a wheelbarrow can make a mountain grow.
B. Discontinue Personal Stories of Racism section.
To present we have not found a way to make our "Personal Stories of
Racism"
section work. Not enough people have responded. Therefore, before the
deadline for entering our site in the "Stockholm Challenge"
http://www.challenge.stockholm.se/
) April 1st - we will
eliminate the Personal Stories of Racism section from our site and revise
the related articles to appear on a separate page of links that is
contributed to by volunteers.
C. Seeking Volunteer Editors
We are looking for volunteers who would like to be the editor of a page of
links to articles related to racism and issues of diversity that can
supplement our site's ART-ACT contest. This is a great way to promote a
related site or bring important information to others. If interested e-mail
me with "Editor" in the subject of your e-mail. Editors would select
articles and prepare them for posting on our site.
ARTISTS - Sell Your Art
Go to http://www.art-teez.org/license.htm
to printout, fill out and send to
us a signed license agreement to market your art on T-shirts. You
receive $2.00 per t-shirt sold.
Those artists licensing their work for printing on t-shirts will become
eligible for further opportunities as they arise. One goal of ours is a
booklet of images for schools to invite discussions of diversity issues
between students. What else could come our way? Any suggestions?
