Hello,
Your thoughts are urged on.
First treat - the latest art - a piece from prison for ART-ACT :
http://www.art-teez.org/artists/djw3.htmSo, we have a work from South Africa and a work from the Illinois prison system. This is a great start. ART-ACT is a great acronym. However,.....
The THEME needs re-writing to make a stronger exhibit. Do we leap from the subject of anti-racism to a new community of diversity and harmony without any intermediate steps? That is unlikely in the real world?
Also, should we stay focused or expand this theme to include anti-Semitism (and any religious based hatred), or homophobia, or gender based violence, and xenophobia or all of these? What combination will include the reality here in Chicago and the U.S.A. as well as the realities else where? What an opportunity to compare and learn.
So, I offer you two versions and then invite you to write your own suggestion. This contest on the internet not only gives you the opportunity to participate - it demands it. Why? Because to make this contest a success is to share the input. This will make my job easier and build a real network which is the main long term reason for doing this exhibit. If others do not share just enough time to e-mail me - even if it is just a hello - then I know the large amount of work I am doing is going to waste. Send me your thoughts. Give ART-ACT your voice!
Version 1
...an anti-racist image , a vision that explains the history or cause's of racism, or which envisions a new community of diversity and harmony. Or explore those moments when people overcome barriers of race and make a difference or bring people together.
Version 2
Images that explore anti-racist, anti-Semitic (or other religion based hatred), homophobic, xenophobic, or gender based violence issues. Explore the attitudes that allow these hatreds to flourish, or encourage their growth. Or which explore the advantages and benefits of cultural diversity.
Version 3
You write this one and e-mail it to us -
