Support inner-city artists - buy t-shirt art
Art of the T-shirt
Community Art Activism
The Uptown Multi-Cultural Art Center has showcased t-shirt art in Chicago's Public Libraries for over ten years. Unable to find support for this activity we were forced to put off public library exhibits. We evolved to promoting artists online, over cable TV and into teaching artists how to screen print their art.
Our "Art of the T-shirt" exhibits present annually artists' work on t-shirts from around the Chicago in our "T-shirt Art Harvest Festival." We exhibit the work from our "Screen Print Workshop for Artists" in a number of venues each year.
Presently - our activity on the Internet is our means of growing exposure for artists' t-shirt artwork, ART-ACT, our "Anti-Racist T-shirt Art Contest Tour" and our most recent community art initiative, the Art Patch Project, which fights for artists' right to sell art in public.
We stress diversity, encouraging creative artists
to show their wearable art annually in our "Art of the T-shirt"
exhibits. Check our Events Page for dates. To view details of our 10 years of free showings in public libraries in Chicago communities visit the History Page.
Read opinions and express your views on local community art issues on our Community Arts Page. Revive the Chicago Cultural Plan.

EDITORIAL QUESTION: How would you envision an artists' market on Chicago's lakefront should be managed and what should be its design? Where should it be located along the lakefront? Click here responses and see links to other artist market related sites and info.
ABOUT UM-CACThe Uptown Multi-Cultural Art Center is a grass-roots, artist-led agency in Chicago's most culturally diverse community - Uptown. It is an outgrowth of artists seeking to build a support base for art in the inner-city. We have volunteered since 1987. Individuals are our greatest source of financial support. We need your support to bring artists' cultural, political, and aesthetic expressions, peoples' art, to the public's attention. Visit our Support Page to donate or volunteer to help make art more plentiful in Chicago and on the Internet. : - )
