The image came from a black & white photo shot while I was
riding my old, second hand bike bought for five dollars from a resale
shop during the winter. I parked it in front of the copy shop where
I intended to layout and copy announcements for our on-going "Art
of the T-shirt" exhibits that summer. Next to my bike at the hitching
horseshoe was a polished power-bike promoted for plenty of buck
you can be sure. When I came out, I noticed the sleek bike making
an amorous move on my street-wise companion. I not only caught
this embarrassing photo but offer it to the world.
This image was printed
on kodalith film at
different exposures.
Two films at different
exposures - one for
a light silver print and
one for a black print
were selected to print
in register.
The 4"X5" kodalith films
were enlarged on a copy
machine. The copies
were touched up with a
black permanent marker.
They were then oiled
and used to expose a
photo sensitized screen.
The background
split-fountain screen
was designed extra large
with the intention to print it first. Once the background was printed and dry the two bike screens were printed
in register sliding the background on the printing platform eyeballing its correct position plus or minus a 1/4 inch.
Screen printing in the hands of an artist is not just a technical skill - it is an art.
