Beeing by C. Drew
This is a four screen print. Screen order when printing wet on wet is important. The four screens in order of printing are yellow, yellow-green, green-blue and reddish-brown. "Wet on wet&qout; means printing all the screens one after the other on top of the previous screens while previous layers are still wet. This means that ink from previous screen mixes with the later screens layers of ink. Wet ink printed on the t-shirt from previous screens then accumulates on the bottoms of the second, third and fourth screens. If one screen moves, then for 3-6 prints the image will have fuzzy edges where the accumulated ink on the bottoms of the other screens prints in different register from the screen that moved. Haah! This is why every time a screen is added the printing gets more touchy. Try it - you'll see. When you try it all will be made clear. On this print - however - a little screen movement can be tolerated because it gives motion to the image. This guarantees each print will be unique. Beeing works only because of the opposing colors of red-brown vs green-yellow. Without the contrast of complementary colors the bee is lost in the design. When the red-brown prints on top of the blue and greens, it turns into a black with character.Screen printing in the hands of an artist is not just a technical skill - it is an art.
