Background Statement
For many years, Carlos made linoblocks and woodcuts which he printed on a flatbed proof-press and contributed to a small workers' newspaper which could not afford to have illustrations photo-engraved.

That newpaper, The Industrial Worker, newsletter of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), published many original Carlos Cortez's works.
