ABOUT THE ARTIST Robert Wapahi
Robert Wapahi spent many years in New York City as a musician. At the age of 32 he learned to draw doodling as he road the subways of New York. He is Dakota-Santee from the Santee Reservation in Nebraska. Since 1989 he has painted in his studio at the Chicago American Indian Center filling that four story building with his art. Oils and Pen and Ink are favorite mediums. Robert also explores wood carving, a variety of crafts and enjoys working with found materials of a natural origin. He taught youth at St Augustine's Child Welfare Program and has shown in the "Art of the T-shirt" every year.
