"All the Same Under the Skin" by Pat Apt
All the Same Under the Skin by Pat Apt

Artist's Statement
This is the dream of my life, a society where the diversity of people is as appreciated as the diversity of flowers and butterflies. I am a printmaker, and live much of the time in Mexico, where I have grown to appreciate the traditions of the Day of the Dead. Hence my submission.

About PAT APT
Although a native New Englander, Pat Apt has lived in many parts of the United States, and at present lives in San Antonio Tlayacapan, Jalisco, Mexico. She maintains her studio space in Ajijic, a neighboring artists' colony, which attracts many travelers from the US, Canada, and Europe. There she creates multicolor linocuts and etchings, as well as teaching workshops.

She has shown work at many shows starting in 1975, both in the Midwest and in Maine Lately her work has been shown at the Centro Ajijic de Bellas Artes, of which she is a Founding Member, at Galeria Americas in Ajijic, at the Hemisphere Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ, and here in Maine, at the Chocolate Church Center for the Arts. Her Linocut "ECSTASY" was chosen for the publicity for the Salon Grafica de Guadalajara, the largest printmaking show in a major printmaking city. Her etching "Millennium" was selected for the Manitoba Printmakers Association Show in December 1999.

An inveterate traveler, her work tends toward a sort of surrealism in Which references are found not only to other cultures and other art, but to mythical events and spiritual symbols.
