Artist's Statement Francis Yellow is Lakota. He is well educated at Midwest universities in Fine Art and has built a following for his art across this Midwest region where his work tours. He writes, "The figures being run over are metaphors for the main arms of
oppression: Economics/Greed, Law/Justice, Science/Education, and the
Military/Police. The warrior's horses are metaphors for the People's
dream to be free and the warriors themselves are counting coup (a non
lethal way of warfare which is more ritualistic than violent) on these
arms of oppression. Also, I call what I do, Lakota Warrior Art which is
a unique tradition of art that speaks on behalf of people and
relationships.
