Mother's Child by Katrina Joyner ![]() |

Artist's Statement My name is Katrina Joyner, born Pearl Harbor Day. I've been drawing things all my life, not necessarily realistically, and rather enjoy it. My pencil sketch, "He Says His Name Is Ruth!", came in runner up in the 1997 Art of Pen Contest. I have a few pieces on exhibit at www.wetcanvas.com. This contest struck a cord in me. Growing up an Urban Native American can be rough. I've been literally stoned at my locker just for the little difference. . . in high school. I know how horrible racism can be. I've been on both sides of the fence. I hope my "Mother's Child" reflects that for all the fact that even though we wear blond pigtails or curly hair or braids or a bowl cut, we all have a mother who loves us. And can be hurt along with us. We all are in the circle of life based on the Big Mother, mother earth. Thank you for your time. Katrina Joyner |
