With Each Vote a Link Breaks by Amie S. Davis

Artist's Statement When I created this image I was celebrating the end of apartheid in South Africa. I was awestruck by the power of the vote. I saw the people having the right to vote as a metaphor for the breaking of the changes of racism. The quote by Santayana is an important part of the piece because we should not forget how the evils of racial, religious, and ethnic hatred can destroy whole nations. Major examples of how hatred destroys is the plight of the Jew in Nazi Germany, of Native Americans and African Americans here in the U.S.A., as well as the recent war in Serbia. I hope we can all learn to live together under democratic principles because we are all one race - the human race. About Amie S. Davis "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears no matter how measured or far away." Oops Art images are a little left of center, a bit over the edge, with a splash of humor added - just for fun. My creations are designed to make you stop and think about the issues that affect us in our daily lives. I hope they will change your attitude in a positive way about man's relationship to man and the struggle of Good vs. Evil. My background in Art began at an early age. I began to draw almost as soon as I learned how to hold a pencil. My older brother taught me the basics of drawing. The rest I learned mainly on my own. I am a constant doodler and an observer of the every day (often mundane) events of daily living. While I am a painter and a photography buff, my favorite art form is cartooning. My ultimate goal is to become a career cartoonist. Also, I want to paint a mural. Welcome to the world of Oops Mania! |
