Artist's Statement
HAND AGAINST THE EVIL EYE
The Evil Eye of hatred and jealousy withers life and growth. The HAMSA hand, an ancient
Middle Eastern protective symbol predating both Judaism and Islam, opposes the Evil Eye.
Here, my own artist's hand, with patterns of richly varied women's textiles, opposes a
stereotyped rubber stamp eye.
