The story behind the painting "Application for asylum refused"

The refugee Marcus Omofuma applied for asylum in Austria, the application was refused and the Austrian administration decided deportation to the country of his origin. During the deportation flight Marcus got aggressive. This was reason enough to tie him up with strong self adhesive tapes over his breast and also over his mouth and nose. Marcus had a lack of air to breath, increased by fear and panic. Although some passengers of the flight alerted the companion police officials to the danger of suffocation, Marcus finally died. The practice of applying self adhesive tapes got known to the public on this occasion.

Heri Hablick, an Austrian painter, specialised in the representation of human faces got strongly impressed by this incident. She, and many other people had the point of view that one fact was very relevant to Marcos death - he was black.
